Purpose of Position
The Family Advocate works with a strengths-based lens to assist resident families in developing and implementing a Family Action Plan with goals intended to increase self-sufficiency. They help coordinate services from a variety of agencies and organizations and develop programing for the Joshua Station community as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Family Advocacy
o Maintain a case load of approximately eight to twelve families
o Meet weekly with each family
o Assist families in accessing resources
o Develop goals with families and track progress
o Conduct interviews and screen potential new families
o Coordinate services with government and community entities including social services, housing authorities, probation and treatment providers
o Keep appropriate records of all family contacts, progress reports and other activities
o Participate in the development of group training or support programming
o Assist in community outreach activities, including fundraising events or public speaking
o Attend all appropriate staffing meetings and community meetings
o Any other tasks assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications: Education, Experience, Certification, and Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
o Bachelor’s degree in a Human Service-related field plus 3-5 years experience working with multiple issues facing families and children, or related work experience.
o Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
o High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to be self-motivated.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data management.
o Written and verbal Spanish proficiency.
o Lived experience is highly valued.
Preferred Qualifications
o Master’s degree in a Human Service related field.
o 1-3 years working with homeless families.
o Experience working with domestic violence and substance abuse issues.
Working Conditions
Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Physical Requirements
The position requires desk and computer work and some light lifting of 20 pounds or less.
