Job Title: Special Education Elementary Teacher

Location: 1860 Lincoln Street, Denver, CO 80203
Minimum Salary: $55,257 with standard benefits.
Duties: Follow DPS curriculum to instruct students. The following duties will be performed at the elementary school level: Help all students develop competence and confidence simultaneously through a balance of acquiring basic skills and conceptual understanding. Plan, evaluate, and assign lessons for elementary school special education classes using various teaching methods, including lecture, demonstration, and the use of audio-visual aides. Prepare lessons and promote classroom discussions and activities to increase understanding of lessons. Prepare and administer tests to evaluate progress, record results, and issue reports of progress. Maintain classroom discipline. Monitor, supervise, coordinate, and enforce rules of conduct and behavior for assigned students, and reinforce positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policies. Observe, evaluate, report, and record students performance, behavior, social development, and physical health, and provide assistance in areas in which students need additional help. Demonstrate familiarity and adherence to the District’s Mission and Goals, while completing, maintaining, and submitting accurate records, forms and reports punctually, as required. Communicate with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students academic progress or behavioral problems. May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the teachers’ collective bargaining agreement.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Education, Special Education, or a closely related field. Must possess a valid state of Colorado teacher license with an appropriate endorsement in Special Education Generalist (5-21) or ability to obtain.
